Instant Star2008-2014
“Rather than scrolling through his photos, you look at them as you flip through the pages. Rather than liking them with a quick click, you might use Post-it notes or scraps of paper to mark the pages. Instant Star is a nostalgic book — an album of yellowed photos that tenderly depict a large family.”
— Josée Hansen, d'Lëtzebuerger Land (transl.)
Instant Star gathers a collection of musicians’ portraits taken with a Polaroid camera between 2008 and 2014, showing a subjective vision of the current independent music scene. Each image in the book can be seen as a life fragment, one of 165 rough portraits of pop, rock, hip hop and electronic music artists, far from the spotlight and glamorous pictures on glossy paper.
In this wealth of images, a central theme stands out: the magic of the instant. All portraits result from one quick, single shot taken on the go, thereby freezing a moment in time of these modern day travellers, if just for an instant. The resulting photographs were then customized by the artists themselves.
