Kuck Elei2016
”These photographs almost become a visual ‘exquisite corpse¨ — random elements linked formally and thematically. In image after image, we are transposed into a new world or a new story, far removed from normal daily life.”
— Paul di Felice, curator
Kuck Elei means “look at this” in Luxembourgish. The name is inspired by a very popular TV show from the 70s and 80s, which is part of Luxembourg’s collective memory and acts as a unique testimony of the evolution of the Luxembourgish society.
There are so many cliché images that come to mind when thinking of Luxembourg that, when asked to produce a body of work for a book, I chose to make pictures that represent another side of Luxembourg to me. I’m originally from Belgium and I believe my foreign eye may have helped me isolate details, paradoxes and hidden surprises, sometimes using symbolism and irony.
